OMEIn December 2012 the Sharaka Steering Committee selected Abdulaziz Al-Shalabi as the first Sharaka Fellow. Dr. Al-Shalabi has recently joined the Sharake team at OME in Paris where he will participate in the training programme of the Sharaka project working  on EU-GCC energy cooperation for three months. He will contribute to the research paper on EU-GCC energy cooperation and will draft commentaries on energy, environment and climate change by drawing on his cross-cutting experience in the field of energy and environment.

Dr. Al-Shalabi works as a mechanical engineer at the Environment Public Authority of Kuwait (KEPA). At KEPA, he is part of the Industrial Department and National Ozone Unit. His tasks mainly involve reviewing environmental impact assessment studies of energy related projects. He is also member of the Kuwait communication team to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). Additionally, Dr. Al-Shalabi is a member of the National Ozone Committee responsible for developing ODS phase-out strategies and policies. Most recently, he was a visiting research fellow at the Environmental Matters Unit of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) in Vienna, where he conducted research on environmental policies. Dr. Al-Shalabi holds a Master’s Degree in sustainable development from the University of Surrey, UK, and a BA in mechanical engineering from the University of Aberdeen, UK.
